The Puppy!
Stan 5/9/12
On May 9th
Ellie had Stan (an inside joke name we settled on as a way of referring to him,
he can be re-named). After he was born
we kept waiting for more puppies but Stan was the only one Ellie had. (Apparently single puppy litters are rare but
can happen, and chances increase if it's a dam's first litter (it was) and if it's
a small breed dog (they are).) Stan is
black, like his mama, and so far seems to enjoy nursing and snuggling with
Ellie. We will post more about his
personality as he grows up. He will be
available July 9th.

Cockapoos
From our experience, cockapoos are a great breed of dog. One of the first things we had read about them is that they do what you do, i.e. when you go on walks, runs, or are being energetic they are energetic along with you, but when you are relaxed and simply lying around they are lying next to you or somewhere within eyesight. We have found that to be true. Ellie and Finney do what we are doing. They are also both fun to travel with and adapt to new places easily. They are a very loving breed, always willing to give you love (mostly when you want it, sometimes when you don't :-) ). They are also incredibly intelligent often picking up on things you wouldn't even think about.
Both Ellie and Finney were easy to train. Ellie was easy to train as a puppy, and smart enough to know that she should really only do tricks for treats. She easily learned sit, stay, and how to play hide and seek. (We would throw a toy, run and hide, and she would come find us). Finney was easier to train when he was 9 months+, and the silly little thing was willing to do tricks simply for love (because of the empty love tank situation :-) ) He knows sit, stay, and stick-em-up. They both know "kennel time" (go to their kennel) and "night-night time" (when they go to their kennel for night). They know a lot more than listed, those are just a few examples.
We have
found them to be excellent alarm dogs.
When there is someone at the door they let us know. They are also very protective of us (all ten
pounds of them).
Both dogs
are excellent with the people that come into our house and the people we meet
on walks. They are friendly, always
willing to give a friendly lick and receive a pat. They are also good with children, Finney will
let our four month old pull his hair, kick him, and pat him.

Pounds Golden/Blonde Curly Coat (Our Papa Dog)
We had
Ellie for seven months before we got Finney.
We had been trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant, and we decided we needed
a little thing to love on while we kept trying.
Also, Ellie would need a friend once we got pregnant to play with. We went to look at Finney in the hills of
Oakhurst and decided to bring him home.
He was a round little butterball of joy.
Initially Ellie was scared to death of him, but after a day or two they
were the best of friends.
Finney is
our loving, mellow, obedient pup who is always willing to curl up next to
you. He is a lover (we say that his love
tank has a hole in it and therefore he can never get enough love). He likes short walks and loves sniffing
everything, but after a while prefers to come home and curl up at our
feet. He adores Ellie and would follow
her to the end of the earth. We like to
say that we got Finney to help heal our hearts, but didn't expect that he would
steal our hearts.
Ellie

We got
Ellie shortly after moving into our new home.
We decided we wanted a puppy, but we weren't sure on what breed to
get. After extensive research, we
decided on a cockapoo, because we read they were as smart as a poodle, as
loving as a cocker-spaniel, and hypoallergenic (we didn't want piles of dog
hair in our new house). We saw an ad for
cockapoo puppies in the area, and we were able to look at pictures of them
online. We initially liked the look of
Ellie's sister, a blonde little pup. But
when we went to look at the puppies it only took one look into Ellie's eyes to
know she was the pup for us.
Ellie is
our smart, excitable, independent dog who simply loves people and new
places. She will love on you for a few minutes
then curl up somewhere where she can keep an eye on you. Ellie loves walks and can go for a long time,
eagerly looking at and smelling everything in sight.
